About

In the spring of 2009, we experienced the tragic death of Delavan resident, Abbey Christensen.  During that time, 5 individuals in Tazewell County lost their lives due to prescription drug overdose in just 2 weeks; Abbey being one of those. In lieu of her loss, the city of Delavan made a decision that we needed to take action and do what we could to combat this problem and help to prevent any further loss of life.

We realize that drugs are all around us, and that no community is immune, however, Abbey’s untimely death prompted us to take the necessary steps in an attempt that something like this never again happens in our community.  With the support of Tazewell County Sheriff Bob Houston, County Coroner Dennis Conover, along with the Health Department, and a group of local dedicated volunteers, the Delavan Drug Task Force was formed.  This group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Delavan City Hall.

Among other educational programs which have already taken place, this web site is one of the results of that task force.  It is our hope that it will be a site which will help educate and inform the people about the dangers of drug abuse as well as make them aware of upcoming events.
